Drawing inspiration from overlooked elements in nature, my work appreciates tiny wonders in the everyday humdrum. I work intuitively but with intention, embracing the slow, meditative process of hand-stitching. Working in this way offers me a sense of calm, finding stillness in a loud world. I explore themes of memory, motherhood and coping mechanisms, through the tension between tradition and rebellion.
A limited monochrome palette allows focus on the intricate complexities of texture and tone. Each piece can take months to create, hundreds of tiny stitches, layered and entwined. The process is cathartic, the end result is organic, complex and unexpected. Hand crafted pieces which bridge traditional craft and contemporary art.
Alongside my textile art, are hand crafted linocut prints. Themes from my fabric pieces overflow onto paper, allowing my ideas to echo in a different medium.
